Kennedy had called the meeting following community concerns over homeless housing near Moreland Road in Hauppauge.
Kennedy has already told the district that he does not expect the number of students coming out of the shelter to increase, and also said the county will likely not get involved. However, he is holding Wednesday's forum at the request of the district.
The education of homeless children is primarily governed by a federal law, the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act of 1987. Among its statutes is a number of confidentiality requirements, such as the exact address of a homeless shelter and information about the children and families residing there.
However the students' placement at Forest Brook Elementary has been a major source of a controversy within the past week after parents questioned that decision, which was made by superintendent Patricia Sullivan-Kriss and attributed to class size.
