Boys Lacrosse Wins 14-5 Over Brewster Bears

The non-league victory provides a much-needed confidence boost as Hauppauge faces a difficult road to make the playoffs.

The Hauppauge Eagles boys lacrosse claimed a 14-5 victory over the Brewster Bears in a non-league match at Score For A Cure, providing a much-needed morale boost. The Eagles are 4-7 in league play, 5-8 overall, and looking to fight their way into the playoffs if they can win their remaining league games.

The Hero: Sophomore Chris Jacovino scored five goals for Hauppauge in Saturday's game, his first game back on the field after sitting out several matches due to injuries. Jacovino's return united the Eagle's offense, revitalizing it with new energy.

Junior Sam Llinares continued to show his leadership in the midfield scoring three goals. Junior Dan King stepped up his game, scoring three goals and making one assist on Saturday.

The Turning Point: Chris Jacovino's return to Hauppauge's starting lineup rallied the Eagles, who dominated Saturday's game from the start.

Senior Joe Jacovino scored the first goal of the game for the Eagles less than two minutes in, working his way around several Brewster defenders before firing on net. This gave Hauppauge a 1-0 lead heading into the second quarter.

King scored seconds into the second period, faking a pass in front of the net before firing the ball past Brewster's goalkeeper. King started a four point rally, giving the Eagles a decisive 7-3 lead at the half.

Other scorers included senior Mike Ortolani with one goal, one assist and five faceoff wins; junior Frank Scozzari with one goal, and junior Tom Kelly with two assists.

The Quote: "We had a slow start but we had a great second, third and fourth quarter finish," said head coach Jerry Goodfellow. "It's great to have Chris Jacovino back on the field. We've had our injuries this year, and we're still not at full strength."
