Eagles Scoreboard: Baseball, Softball and Girls Lax Make Playoffs

Three of Hauppauge's spring sports teams will compete for a Suffolk County title.

Three of Hauppauge's spring varsity sports teams have made it to the playoffs to compete for a Suffolk County championship title. Hauppauge girls lacrosse team won the first round of playoffs 17-1 over Huntington on Saturday, with the baseball and softball teams entering the hunt this week.

Girls Lacrosse: The Lady Eagles finished their league season undefeated with a 14-0 record to clinch the Division II title.

Jen Porretto led Hauppauge's offense by scoring five goals against Babylon in a 13-6 victory on May 16. Diana Rienzo and Jenna Vinci each had two goals and one assist against Babylon.

The No. 1 Hauppauge girls lacrosse team eliminated No. 8 Huntington, winning 17-1 on Saturday in the first round of playoffs. Porretto scored eight goals and added three assists to lead the Lady Eagles to victory.

Softball: The Hauppauge softball team managed to edge past League V champions Kings Park for a 2-0 win on May 19, but finished 15-4 in regular league play to take second place.

Junior Sandy Hawthorne hit a run-scoring double in the bottom of the sixth inning to put Hauppauge on the scoreboard and take a 1-0 lead. Hawthorne took third base on a Kings Park throwing error, before heading home on a bunt by Devan Valoruso.

The softball team beat Harborfields 13-0 on Friday, ending their league season play. Senior pitcher Kayla Conover threw six strikeouts and gave up two hits and one walk in a five-inning game. Marietta Silliman went three-for-four at the plats with a triple, a stolen base and three runs scored.

The softball team is No. 4  heading into the Class AA Championships, and will play against No. 13 Smithtown East at home on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Baseball: The Eagles baseball team dropped two games of the three-game series against Kings Park last week, falling to second place in League V.

Hauppauge lost 4-2 to Kings Park on May 16. The Eagles bounced back with a 11-10 win on May 19 at Turn 2 For The Cure, where center fielder John Colby made two defensive plays to keep Hauppauge ahead of the Kingsmen.

Hauppauge couldn't keep up momentum, as they lost to Kings Park 5-4 on May 20. The Eagles finished 14-4 in League V play to finish in second place.

The team is No. 6  heading into the first round of the Class AA Championships against No. 11  North Babylon at Hauppauge High School on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Boys Lacrosse: The Hauppauge boys lacrosse team beat Mount Sinai 11-4 in their final game of the season. Chris Jacovino and Tom Kelly both scored three goals and added one assist. Senior goalkeeper Tyler Donovan made 12 saves.

Senior Charlie Lloyd will graduate to play for lacrosse for Fordham University, where he will join the Naval ROTC program.
