Eagles Scoreboard: Girls Lacrosse, Softball Pick Up Wins

The school's girls lacrosse remains undefeated, while softball pitcher throws a no-hitter.

The Hauppauge girls lacrosse and softball teams both picked up wins last week, while the boys lacrosse team continues to struggle against difficult competition.

Here is our weekly break-down of how Hauppauge's varsity athletic teams have fared in competition over the past week:

Softball: Lady Eagles senior pitcher Kayla Conover secured a 13-0 win for Hauppauge over Harborfields on April 11 to start the week by throwing a no-hitter. Conover had seven strikeouts in four innings.

The team followed up with back-to-back wins later in the week, first beating Miller Place 8-1 on April 14 before beating Shoreham-Wading River 14-0 on Friday.

Highlights included Kristie Capuano going 2-for-3 at bat against Miller Place with a double and a solo home run. Pitcher Nicole Ehlinger earned 10 strikeouts against Shoreham-Wading River in five innings.

Last week's three wins improves the team record to 6-2 in League V play. Hauppauge's next league game will be at home against Sayville on April 25 at 11 a.m.

Girls Lacrosse: The Hauppauge girls lacrosse team remains undefeated as the Lady Eagles beat Shoreham-Wading River 12-7 on April 13 and Westhampton 10-5 on April 15. The team record improved to 6-0 in Division II, for an overall record of 7-0.

Jennifer Porretto continues to lead the Lady Eagles offense with seven goals in two games, four against Shoreham-Wading River and three against Westhampton. Goalkeeper Kasey Kephart protected the team's lead with eight saves against Westhampton.

The girls lacrosse team next faces Kings Park on April 26 at 5:45 p.m.

Boys Lacrosse: The Hauppauge boys lacrosse team is struggling to win against tough competition in Division II. The team fell 12-4 against Islip on April 13. And despite a close match against Huntington on April 15, the Eagles fell 11-9.

Hauppauge will travel to take on Elwood/John Glenn on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Baseball: The Eagles varsity baseball team played two non-league games last week with mixed result.

Hauppauge lost 6-5 to Smithtown West, who is two brackets up in Division III.

The team rallied late in the game to beat Division I Patchogue-Medford, 7-5. Hauppauge scored five of its six runs in the sixth inning. The rally started when Mike Mazzeo hit a two-run single to tie the score at 4.

The Hauppauge varsity baseball team will host Huntington on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
