Hauppauge Ball Player Helps Hofstra Finish Strong

Catcher Matt Reistetter is named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association first team.

Hofstra University junior catcher Matt Reistetter, of Hauppauge, was recently named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association first team.

It is the third consecutive all-conference selection for the baseball player. In 2012 he was a second team pick and in 2011 he was named to the All-CAA third team.

Reistetter led Hofstra in batting in 2013 with a .326 average. The junior started 47 of the team’s 53 games and posted 58 hits, 10 doubles, one triple, two home runs, 25 runs and 34 RBIs. He also added six stolen bases. He set career-highs in batting average, hits, doubles, home runs, RBIs and steals. Defensively, he posted a .986 fielding percentage and threw out nearly 40 percent of would-be base stealers (17 of 43).

Reistetter was a nominee for the Johnny Bench Award, which is awarded to the top catcher in Division I, as well as the Gregg Olson Award, which is presented to the Breakout Player of the Year in college baseball. He was also named the CAA Player of the Week on April 1 after batting .556 (10-18) with a double, triple, home run, seven runs and eight RBIs in five games, all Hofstra wins.

Hofstra finished the 2013 season with a 26-27 record and missed out on the sixth and final spot in the CAA Championship by percentage points.
