Hauppauge Man Named Hofstra Wrestling Head Coach

Rob Anspach takes over as head coach on March 28.

A Hauppauge resident will be promoted to head coach of Hofstra's wrestling team. 

Rob Anspach, a 2001 Hofstra alumnus, will replact Tom Shiffletas head coach of Hofstra's wrestling team after Shifflet announced his resignation following the 2011 NCAA championship.  Anspach will become the team's 11th head coach as of March 28. 

 "I am truly grateful to Hofstra President Stuart Rabinowitz and Director of Athletics Jack Hayes for this opportunity and the confidence they have expressed in me to lead the Pride Wrestling program," Anspachsaid in a statement. "I am excited about the challenges that lie ahead and I feel I have the ability to continue leading Hofstrain the right direction. I would also like to thank both Tom Shiffletand Tom Ryan, both mentors and friends, for helping me get to this day."

Anspach has served as the team's associate head coach for the past three years, and has been part of the Pride wrestling coaching staff for nine years.  Previously, he has completed as a student-athlete for Hofstra with a 69-51 record, making two trips to the NCAA Championships in five years.  Highlights from Anspach's career included winning the New York State Championship title at 167 pounds as a sophomore.
