Hauppauge Wrestling Meet And Alumni Night Postponed

Harborfields reschedules trip to Hauppauge based on weather predictions.

Hauppauge  wrestling fans and alumni will have to wait a few more days to celebrate the program's successful history. 

The second annual Hauppauge wrestling alumni night and Harborfields meet scheduled for 6 p.m. has been reschedule due to inclement weather predictions. Event organizer Charlie Clackett said alumni night and the meet have been rescheduled for  Tuesday, Jan. 11 at  6 p.m., with alumni celebrations starting at 5:15 p.m. 

The wrestling alumni night was forced to be rescheduled after Harborfields school district cancelled all of its after-school activities for Friday and Saturday, according to their website.

"I’m already getting e-mails back. It sounds like the majority of people are still going to be able to be there on Tuesday. There might be a few people not making it though," Clackett said. 

More than 60 Eagles alumni had  planned to attend the Harborfields meet to to reminisce about the glory days and see championship banners representing the teams of 1962, 1966, 1986, 1990, 2002 and 2009 be presented for hanging in the l's gymnasium.

Instead, those who have braved the weather will be gathering a local home to reminisce the glory days. 

The National Weather Service had issued a winter weather advisory until 8 p.m. Friday for Hauppauge and western Suffolk County predicting heavy afternoon snowfall with accumulations of 2 - 3 inches. Visibility is predicted at one-half mile or less during periods of moderate to heavy snow.  Forecasters warn of travel difficulties, predicting slippery roadways and low visibility.
