UPDATE: Four Hauppauge Wrestlers Advance at Counties

Each look to win county title Monday at Stony Brook.

Update: Patch would like to add that Eagles captain Adam Lepkowsky, wrestling at the 140 pound class, advanced to the Suffolk County semi finals  and is now headed for the finals. 

Hauppauge has three wrestlers in the semifinals of the Division I Suffolk County championships.

Chris Mauriello, wrestling at 96 pounds and with the weight of his on his shoulders, managed to battle through the bracket with a 13-10 win over John Glenn’s Chris D’Amico and a 6-2 overtime defeat of Whitman’s John Calderone.

He’ll wrestle Ward Melville’s Nick Piccininni in the semifinals Monday at Stony Brook University.

Defending New York State champion Mark West, cruised through his first two matches at 112 pounds, beating Smithtown West’s Joe Giamis via pin in 1:46, then blanking Central Islip’s Mark Sanchez, 10-5.

West will face Longwood’s Corey Rasheed in the semis.

Adam Lepkowsky, wrestling at 140 pounds won two matches and earned his way into Monday's semifinal. He'll wrestle Amityville's Mark Jerrick, and has made his way into the finals. 

Chanse Menendez will wrestle Copiague’s Clint Boone in the 171-pound semifinal. He pinned Glenn’s Luke Prohaske in 5:42 and beat Longwood’s Dylan Seybolt to get to there.

Austin Munro (103), Brendan Ehlinger (152) and Michael Rutigliano (285) lost in the first round.

Notes & Quotes

-Huntington’s Nigel McNeil, wrestling at 119 pounds, has not lost in two years and advanced to the semifinals with easy wins Sunday afternoon.

-Longwood leads all teams with six wrestlers in the semis, while John Glenn has five.

-Overall point leaders Division I: Longwood (100), John Glenn (68), Sachem East (55), Connetquot (55) and Huntington (53).

-Overall point leaders Division II: Bayport (188.5), Center Moriches (117.5), Mattituck (110.5) and Port Jefferson (99).

-Rocky Point head coach Darren Goldstein on the county finals: “This is the big show. It’s what everybody trains for all year long."
