Olympic Athlete to be Honored Before Nesconset Concert

Maria Michta, of Nesconset, will be recognized by Suffolk Leg. John Kennedy prior to July 24 concert at Nesconset Gazebo.

 

A Nesconset athletic will be recognized before she leaves to compete at the 2012 Olympics in London on Wednesday. 

Suffolk County Leg. John Kennedy Jr., R-Nesconset, plans to present a Proclamation to Maria Michta prior to the Nesconset Summer Concert Series on Tuesday night.

Kennedy and his aides collected donations from area residents at the July 17 concert, in hopes of raising enjoy money to help Michta's family pay for airfare and hotels to watch her compete in track & field's race walk the 2012 Olympics in London. 

On July 18, . The Olympian was visiting Sachem East High School's SYAG track camp when the fire struck.

Michta, a Sachem North High School graduate will be on hand to accept the check on Tusday night. Those presented will include Kennedy, Leg. Tom Muratore, R - Bay Shore, and the Nesconset Chamber of Commerce, who hosts the event. 

The ceremony will begin prior to the concert, at roughly 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the Nesconset gazebo, next door to Nesconset branch of the Smithtown Special Library District at 127 Smithtown Boulevard in Nesconset.
