Preview: Eagles Football Takes On West Babylon

Hauppauge varsity football team to go up against No. 3 seeded West Babylon.

The Hauppauge Eagles varsity football team is gearing up for another difficult game this Friday, after a hard loss to Riverhead 45-13.

The Eagles, 1-1, will hit the road to play against No. 3 seeded West Babylon this Friday under the lights at 7 p.m. West Babylon, 2-0, has beat the No. 1 ranked East Islip the first game of the season, 16-10.

"We knew it was going to be a tough go last week, and it’s going to be a tough go this week. We’re young enough that we’re enthusiastic," said head coach Joe Patrovich.

Patrovich said the focus has been on improving both the offensive and defensive lines, learning from mistakes made against Riverhead.

" I’m very happy with their growth as far as it goes. We had some spots we didn’t play well [against Riverhead] and it looked like the winds came out of our sails but we didn’t quit," he said. "We bounced back on the next play."

Junior quarterback Cory Wood has been instrumental in leading the team forward, along with Dominic Confredo, Mike Rutigliano and Josh Kun. They will have to toughen up and play a little smarter to beat West Babylon, who is a more experienced team, Patrovich said.

"Upsets happen, that's why you have to play the game," the coach said.
