Q&A With Hauppauge Boys Lacrosse Captains

Hauppauge.patch.com takes a look at the Eagles varsity boys lacrosse team leaders.

The Eagles boys lacrosse team will rely on the leadership of its team captains to make another run at the Suffolk County Championships. Patch staff caught up with juniors midfielder Sam Llinares and attacker Dan King, and senior defenseman Luke Wolmer to talk about this upcoming season.

Here’s our question-and-answer session with three of the Eagles standout players as we head into lacrosse season:

Wolmer:  “I’ve been playing lacrosse since second grade. We had a great youth program that I joined and it just went from there.”

Q: "What skills are you working on improving heading into the season?"

Llinares: “Basically, I’ve mostly been working on conditioning and hitting the wall when I can, along with some extra shooting here and there.”

King:  “I’ve been shooting a lot, I go to the wall and I do a lot of conditioning.”

Wolmer: “This year I switched to using a long pole, so I’ve been working on my skills and footwork. I’m pretty comfortable with it now.”

Q: "What are your hopes/expectations for the spring 2011?"

Llinares: “We’re looking to make the playoffs once again. This is going to be my third year on varsity, so I’d like to make it three years in a row [in playoffs]. I think the guys are coming along really well and we have a great shot at doing it this year. Individually, I’d like to win All-American, but it’s going to take a lot of work and patience. Hopefully, I will get to fulfill that goal.”

King: “I want to see our team make the playoffs again and win as many games as we can. This season I’m going to try and get All-County, and maybe try and score thirty goals.”

Wolmer: “We lost a lot of players to graduation, but we still expect to make the playoffs and hopefully go on another good run. I hope to be a solid player and to have the coaches rely on me when we need it.”

Q: "What do you do to get ready before a game? Do you have any pregame rituals?"

Llinares: “I just go through the drills with the team, visualize what I’m going to do in certain situations if possible and listen to my Ipod.”

King:  “I usually try and drink a lot of fluids before the game and just visualize what I have to do on the field.”

Wolmer: “I just put on my music and throw on some eye black. It gets you in the zone.”
