Snow Closures Create Busy Schedule For Eagles Sports

Wrestling, boys' swimming, and girls' basketball only need to be concerned with seeding for post-season.

Hauppauge sports teams has a slow week of competition, as snow cancelled games scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday. Here is an update on the teams and their current standings as they enter the final stretch towards the post-season.

Boys basketball is currently ranked fifth in League IV at 2-4 (5-7).  They are in the midst of one of their toughest stretches of the season, as they face undefeated West Babylon at home. West Babylon has already beaten last year’s New York State Class AA champions Half Hollow Hills. The Eagles' last game was a tough defeat from 4-3 (8-4) Deer Park, with the score ending 81-51.

Girls basketball, 5-2 (10-3) is going to have a chance to prove their position in League IV when they face Bellport, 4-2 (9-3) at home on Feb.1, 6:15 p.m.  The last time these two teams met, the Eagles lost by three points in the final quarter.  Hauppauge’s Julie Williams is currently first in Suffolk county for three-pointers with 38 this season, she’s also ranked 13th for points-per-game, averaging 17.5.

Boys bowling looks to improve their standings in League II in hopes of qualifying for county championships on Monday at 3:30 p.m., Sachem North(2-4).  The Eagles are currently (1-2).

Boys swimming, 4-1 (5-1), has taken their only defeat of the season from Sayville/Bayport, 5-0 (7-1), on Friday with a score of 109-75.  The Eagles will face their competition for the No. 2 spot in League II on Tuesday when they host Connetquot, 4-0(4-2), at 4:15 p.m.  They’ll be looking to add to their list of qualifiers for Suffolk County.

Eagles wrestling (5-1) has tough competition in League V, ranked second as a team fell behind Kings Park(6-0), after losing a dual meet last week against the Kingsmen, 34-28.  The Eagles’ most recent meet was against Islip (5-2) on Friday where the team won a tough match 47-21.  The Eagles will go to Newburgh Saturday for a tournament.  Adam Lepkowsky (140 lb.), and Chanse Menendez (170 lb.) are ranked first in their weights according to the Long Island Wrestling Assosciation.
