Snair Announces Plan for Smithtown’s Future

Earlier this week, I announced my Vision For Smithtown’s Future, a comprehensive plan that will lower property taxes, prioritize economic growth, and increase government efficiency.

Here are the main points of my plan:

Focus on Downtown Revitalization
Growth and revitalization of our downtowns is vital to increasing Smithtown’s economic development and boosting our economy. We will use a Smart Growth approach in improving these areas by making them vibrant and attractive for mixed-use commercial and residential developments.

Attract Businesses into Smithtown
I will work with local leaders to create a Smithtown economic development plan that will provide generous tax incentives for businesses looking to relocate in Smithtown. We will also identify underutilized properties that are good candidates to turn into economic incentive zones.

Improve the Hauppauge Industrial Park
The Hauppauge Industrial Park's benefits to Smithtown’s economy are substantial. We will work to curb the growing vacancy rate in the industrial park. We will also improve the roads inside the park and work to mitigate its traffic congestion.

Create a Master Plan
One of Smithtown’s underlying problems is its lack of a completed and updated master plan. We will work to complete a master plan within 9 months of me taking office.

Restructure Town Departments
To make our government efficient as possible, we will reform, optimize, and consolidate redundant or outdated town departments. We will also ensure our government is providing reliable services and reducing the taxpayers’ overall bottom line.

Eliminate Political Patronage
Politics should not be a factor in governing and we will remove the culture of political patronage from government.

Streamline the Permit Process
Our town government has become clogged with bureaucracy and red tape. This has resulted in residents and businesses unable to receive proper permits in a timely manner. We will overhaul the current permit process in Town Hall and ensure our government is meeting the standards we all come to expect.

Promote Accessibility
As supervisor, I will usher in a new level of accessibility for not only the supervisor’s office, but also Town Hall as a whole. Constituents will be provided with unparalleled availability and the opportunity to be more engaged with departments, programs, and their community.

Improve Infrastructure
We will drastically augment the Highway Department’s budget and invest resources into fixing our residential and commercial roads, sidewalks, driveway aprons, and curbs. We will also work with town officials to improve traffic safety and ensure our families are safe.

Preserve Open Spaces
Our environment has been threatened by expanded development in non-industrial areas. I understand the important balance between development and preservation, and will only increase economic development in our already designated commercial areas. I will be a tireless advocate in promoting our open spaces, protecting our parks and beaches, and ensuring development does not harm our quality of life.
