Lane Changes Hit Route 347 Thursday

Three lanes on Route 347 between Brooksite Drive and Plaisted Avenue will be lowered to two, while only one lane will be open on 347 at the Route 111 intersection.

Lane changes are set to hit 347 in Hauppauge on Thursday, slowing down the flow of traffic in the area for the next two years.

According to the state's Department of Transportation, the three lanes on Route 347 between Brooksite Drive and Plaisted Avenue will be lowered to two, while only one lane will be open on 347 at the Route 111 intersection.

The lane closures will be in effect from 6:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. each morning, and will last until early 2015.

The lane closures are part of the ongoing reconstruction of the roadway into Long Island's first greenway, a major roadway featuring eco-friendly lighting, bus stops, bike trails and lots of greenery.

The first section of the redo, between Veteran's Memorial highway and Route 111, has already been finished.
