Smithtown NonProfit Receives $10,000 Grant from BJ's

Options for Community Living will use funds to support families in its affordable housing programs.

A Smithtown nonprofit agency accepted a $10,000 grand from BJ's Community Foundation this Monday.

Options for Community Living , a nonprofit organization that provides housing and support for homeless individuals, those in crisis or individuals with chronic medical or mental illness, said it will use the funds to help families in its affordable housing programs.

"Supported housing is a common-sense solution, transforming the lives of veterans who are homeless, people with serious mental illness, and those living with HIV/AIDS,” stated Dr. Diana Antos Arens, executive director of Options for Community Living. “With support from BJ’s Charitable Foundation, we can expand our quality services to additional families living with HIV/AIDS.”

The grant is part of a total $754,220 BJ's Charitable Foundation has given to 108 nonprofit charitable organizations across the nation so far this year.

"We hope these donations benefit the incredible efforts of our partners working to impact the lives of individuals and families and enable them to continue to provide crucial services to those in need," said Jessica Newman, executive director of BJ’s Charitable Foundation in a statement.

Options for Community Living was established in 1982 to provide residential services for adults with mental illness, and affordable housing and care coordination services for individuals and families living with HIV and AIDS and other chronic health conditions. It's goal is to help people live independent lives within their communities.
