Babysitting Skills, Character Building and Elvis in the Week Ahead

A look at the upcoming week in Hauppauge.

Character Education for Grades 3-5
In this free six-week character education course, students in grades 3-5 will learn important everyday skills and tools necessary to develop into the person they want to be. The six pillars of character will be discussed with fun activities each week. Tuesday, 4:15 p.m. community room at the  Horizons Center in Smithtown.

Babysitting Skills for Grades 7-10
In this free six-week babysitting course, students in grades 7-10 will learn important topics that babysitters need to know. They will also work with Real Care babies and put their new skills to the test. Tuesday, 5:30 p.m. community room at the  Horizons Center in Smithtown.

Community Conversation
An opportunity for high school students to come together for thoughtful discussion and dialogue about their shared values as Americans past,present, and future. Program runs Jan. 8, 22 and Feb. 5from 6-7:30 pm. To register please contact the Youth Bureau at 631-360-7595 or kdevito@tosgov.com. Sports Section
Jump into this book group specifically for Sports fans and enjoy a lively discussion about the title : League of Denial: The NFL, Concussions and the Battle for Truth by Mark Fainaru-Wadu and Steve Fainaru.  To register, come in, call 979-1600, or go online with your library card. Wednesday, 7 p.m.

Celebrate Elvis's Birthday
Wednesday night the Smithtown Library, Nesconset Branch, will present an Elvis tribute show  7 to 8 p.m. starring Andrew G. Ratway, as Elvis.
