Kicks for Cancer, Italian Cooking Among This Week's Best

A look at what's going on around town this week.

It's Columbus Day, which means if you are a school or government worker, you probably have the day off. For everyone else, 5 p.m. will be here before you know it.

Hauppauge schools are closed Monday, as are Islip and Smithtown town halls. There's also no mail delivery today. The Hauppauge Public Library is open its normal hours from 9:30 a.m.- 9 p.m.

Hauppauge also has a slate of varsity matches this week. See our guide below.

Here's what's on tap around town this week:

Key Events

Monday- Charlie Walsh is cooking up some fine Italian fare at the library at 7 p.m. You'll be able to sample his tasty recipes. To register, stop by the library, call 979-1600 or go online with your library card.

Tuesday- "Kicks for Cancer," a cancer fundraising event, and boys and girls varsity soccer games in memory of HHS student Courtney Tomkin will be held at the Hauppauge High School track starting at 4 p.m.
