Suffolk County Office of the Aging is a center of information and services for residents over 60. Guided by the Federal Older American Act of 1965, it uses a combination of federal, state and county funding to provide a variety of programs and services designed to keep seniors independent and living in their own homes. The center provides assistance and referrals for necessary programs, case management, benefit applications, caregiver support and, when necessary, adult day care. Additionally, the Center organizes social activities through its Senior Citizen Advisory Board which promotes an annual "Senior Celebration" in May and a senior citizen picnic each summer.
