Suffolk County Weights and Measures Bureau

<p>The Weights and Measures Bureau is a subdivision of the Suffolk County's Department of Consumer Affairs. It oversees the testing and inspection of all weight and measurement devices used for commerical purposes in addition to checking pre-packaged goods for compliance (e.g. scales in supermarkets, deli scales, butcher shops, laundromats, gasoline bumps and fuel oil meters). Consumers who believe they may have been cheated on the amount they paid for by a retailer can contact this agency to investigate the matter.</p> <p>In addition, the Weights and Measures Bureau issues licenses for all precious metal dealers and registers gas stations for business.</p>
