Suffolk County's Civil Service
<p>The Civil Service Department of Suffolk County oversees the hiring and employment for all county offices. In addition, it oversees the hiring practices of more than 240 school districts, towns, villages, water districts, libraries and other public entities. Overall, the Civil Service employs more than 40,000 individuals.</p> <p>It is responsibile for administering the Civil Service exam for these positions, which vary from computer technology and child support specialists to police. Both promotional and openly competitive exams are announced on its website and via e-mail.</p>
