Services for Children with Special Needs is a combination of three separate programs divided by age: Early Intervention Program, for children birth to 3 years; Preschool Special Education Program, ages 3 to 5; and Children with Special Needs, up to 21.
The Early Intervention program is designed to enhance the development of infant and toddlers with delays, and make sure at-risk families get the services they need to minimize potential delays. The staff ensures that families and their children receive appropriate services and referrals. Suffolk County school districts determine the referrals and eligibility for the Preschool Special Education program.

It's an approved New York State language-based school founded in 1984. Special education teachers work with speech and language pathologists, physical therapists and psychologists to help children develop necessary skills to their age level. In addition, enrichment programming includes gym time, music classes, art classes, "Handwriting without Tears" and social skill groups.
TOPS also offers both home-based and center-based services including an occupational and physical therapy suite with sensory integration.
