Have Your Car Windows Been Shot Out? More Reports Filed With Cops

Neighborhood watch asks locas to be vigilant, safe and report what they see to authorities.

According to the local neighborhood watch in Hauppauge, more members of the community are reporting their car windows being shot out by someone with a pellet gun, and the area is on high alert.

"I've received 5 more members email informing me their windows were shot out. Some reporting vehicles that were parked on the driveway are now being hit," wrote Perfect Neighborhood Watch leader James Semon in a email to members.

"I know most of you, not all, have filed police reports, and that is the only way we're going to get police patrols. Last night Police stopped a vehicle and searched it in our area, but the occupant was allowed to leave. There was a visible increase in police presence due to all of you calling. The individual doing this may be on foot, as some security footage showed an individual walking / jogging around the time of the vandalism."

According to the Suffolk County Police's incidents tracker, 14 criminal mischief reports related to damaged vehicles or homes were reported between April 11 and April 15, with five occurring on Autumn Drive, and others reported on Glenwood Drive, Terrace Drive, Camelia Place, Marwood Drive, Gilbert Avenue, Canterbury Drive and two on Northfield Road.

"I implore those of you who did not file a report to do so. That report is your voice. Make it heard. As a result of what is going on, be prepared for an increase in police patrols which will mean traffic enforcement of stop signs and speed limits, so keep that in mind.I would like to thank all of you for reporting these acts to this watch. We have many eyes and ears out there; maybe someone will see this individual and they will be caught," Semon wrote.

He also cautioned against folks trying to track down the perpetrators on their own.

"We are much more effective reporting than going out and confronting an individual, who may be armed with some kind of weapon. Someone could be hurt and this could escalate into more than a broken window."
