Power Outages Cause Major Delays on Motor Pkwy

Drivers are advised to avoid Motor Parkway Friday due to power outages, downed wires and traffic lights that are out of order.

The Suffolk County Police Department said that the outages are causing major delays on the roadway from Wicks Road in Commack to the Long Island Expressway in Hauppauge. Motorists are  to use an alternate route.

Sudden onslaught of afternoon thunderstorms cut off electricity to hundreds of Smithtown area residents, including 410 residents in Hauppauge.

Long Island Power Authority is reporting 3,012 customers without power in Suffolk County after a string of afternoon thunderstorms, largely along the North Shore, struck on Friday, according to its outage map.
