Spota: Gun Ring Busted

District Attorney Thomas Spota announced at DA headquarters in Hauppauge this week that three ex-cons were arrested for trafficking nearly 60 illegal guns over a six-month period.

According to Spota, a Middle Island couple and Georgia man swapped cash for 53 handguns and five rifles during 11 separate transactions, which he said were documented by the DA's Gun Suppression Team.

The couple – Shawdale Frederick and Janet Lewis – and the Georgia man – Joshua Galbert – all remain held without bail.

According to Spota, the swaps took place at hotels in Bohemia and Stony Brook, as well as a Yaphank gas station.

"Partnered with our ADA’s in the Special Investigations Bureau, we are focused on disrupting the transport and sale of handguns to criminals on Long Island,” Spota said.
