Hauppauge Grad Lights Up College Lax Field

Lauren Descalzo is named the NEC player of the week for the third time this year.

Hauppauge High School graduate Lauren Descalzo is on fire.

Not only did the college freshman lacrosse player help the Bryant Bulldogs reach the Northeast Conference (NEC) tournament for the first time in program history on Sunday, but she was also named the NEC Rookie of the Week for her efforts. It’s the third time she’s been awarded the title in one year.

According to the school's athletic department, in two games last week, Descalzo potted six goals for the Bulldogs to raise her season total to 33. She scored a goal against Monmouth last  Friday before exploding for five in Bryant's playoff-clinching victory over Mount St. Mary's on Sunday. Descalzo scored a pair of goals in the first half to help the Bulldogs grab a 10-2 lead at the break and then scored three of the five Bulldog goals in the second half to tie her career high with five.

She has scored at least one goal in each of the last five games and at least one in all but three this season.

Descalzo also netted five tallies against Sacred Heart on her way to her first rookie of the week honor.

Descalzo and the Bulldogs will now prepare for the NEC tournament that begins on Friday, April 26 at Monmouth. The No. 3 seed in the tournament, Bryant will face No. 2 seed Central Connecticut on Friday at 2:30 p.m. in West Long Branch, N.J.
