Plans Approved for New 7-Eleven on Gibbs Pond Road
A Bay Shore developer has gotten approval to raze a local eyesore to construct a new 7-Eleven on Gibbs Pond Road. 

Smithtown Town Board voted to unanimously approve site plans to construct a 7-Eleven in Nesconset, on the northwest corner of Gibbs Pond Road and Smithtown Boulevard intersection. 

Human West Nile Case Reported in Smithtown
uffolk authorities confirmed there is a reported human case of West Nile Virus in the Town of Smithtown area. 

A Town of Smithtown male resident over age 50 had fever, chills and fatigue in September was confirmed to have West Nile virus, according to Suffolk County Department of Health. He was never hospitalized and has recovered. 

Scout Gets Top Honors for Angela's House Project
Eagle Scout candidate Dennis Collins of Troop 343 in Hauppauge recently completed his Eagle Scout project at Angela's House in Smithtown. His project consisted of the construction of a pondless water fall and a four-foot backless bench.

No Decision on Homeless Shelter Resolution

Residents in opposition of a second  homeless shelter being opened in their community voiced their concerns at a meeting held Friday with Suffolk lawmakers.

Members of the county legislature's Human Services Committee reviewed a resolution proposed by Legis. John M. Kennedy (R- Nesconset), that called on the county to end their contract with Community Housing Initiatives, which runs the shelter, saying the county violated its own code by housing more than 12 families in the facility. No decision was made as lawmakers decided to table the resolution.

On November 9, the Village of Islandia held its annual Veterans Day ceremony at the Village Memorial Triangle. Mayor Allan M. Dorman, a Vietnam veteran, was joined by local elected officials, war veterans and representatives from the Central Islip and Lakeland Fire Departments to honor those who served and continue to serve in the armed forces.
